Our Story

Amanda Ang
Founder And Head Gem Buyer

Like all good stories, this one begins with my mother.

As a passionate gemstone collector, she introduced me to the magical world of gemology at a young age. The jewels in her treasure box fascinated me. Each held a special place in her heart — a moment in time captured in radiant form. Her treasure box was like a time capsule of sparkling memories that never lost their shine.

While I grew up in that world, life initially took me down a completely different path. I started my career at Goldman Sachs in New York, before venturing into journalism and building a startup in the travel space.

However, life has a funny way of coming full circle, and at one point, many of my friends started getting engaged. While feeling lost trying to pick out the right engagement ring, they sought my help to make tasteful choices that would suit their partners.

After visiting store after store with them, I realized that the experience of buying an engagement ring was broken.

The 3 Major Challenges

#1 Stores Sell You What They Have, Not What You Want

At many retail stores, the emphasis is often on selling what is readily available, rather than taking the time to understand a customer's individual tastes and desires. This means customers can feel subtly pressured into purchasing items that may not be the best fit for their needs or preferences, leading to a disappointing and unsatisfying experience.

#2 Options are Limited

Jewelers traditionally have limited options due to high rent and carrying costs. If you are considering a Fancy cut diamond, colored gemstone or specialty piece, you may not have many options in your desired size, cut and color to choose from.

#3 You Don’t Know Who to Trust

Finding impartial and unbiased advice can be a challenge in the world of jewelry shopping. Online stores lack the personal touch, blogs may be influenced by affiliate links, and brick-and-mortar jewelers may prioritize moving their inventory over providing objective guidance.

At the end of the day, my friends simply felt confused.

What information should they trust to make the right decision?

This inspired me to create August Bespoke — a custom jewelry experience centered around you.

How Are We Different?

#1 Neutral and Objective Advice

Unlike other jewelry stores, we do not carry any physical inventory. Zero inventory means zero hard-selling.

Our value as GIA-certified gemstone experts lies in being impartial advisors so you can take advantage of our experience and expertise to make the smartest and most informed decision for you.

#2 We Invest in Your Why

From the beginning of this journey, we make it a point to hear your unique love story. This often allows us to uncover special dates or details which we can incorporate into your finished piece.

In addition, you will experience our proprietary ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Discovery Process where we analyze your style and lifestyle to create a design that is equal parts stunning and wearable.

We are proud to be the only jeweler in Singapore to provide complimentary proposal ideation and access to our community of trusted experts such as event planners and photographers to help you create meaningful moments to cherish for a lifetime.
